NSW: Oppn doesn't support taking obese kids from parents

The New South Wales opposition says childhood obesity is a complex issue and can't
be solved by breaking up families.

Opposition community services spokeswoman PRUE GOWARD says it's a child protection
issue and health and education authorities should coordinate programs to help obese children.

But she says taking children from their parents isn't the solution.

Ms GOWARD's comments come after Dr SHIRLEY ALEXANDER from The Children's Hospital at
Westmead in Sydney said parents should have their children seized if they fail to address
diet problems.
