Qld: RACQ to announce plans to stop Queensland Motorways sale

The RACQ is launching a campaign to stop the sale of Queensland Motorways.

Spokesman GARY FITES says the privatisation of the state-owned entity will condemn
motorists to paying tolls on the Gateway and Logan motorways for the next 50 years.

He says the only rationale for it is a once-off cash injection of three to five billion
dollars .. to get the Queensland Motorways debt off the government's books.

He says a private operator would be motivated by profit and maximising returns to shareholders
.. not traffic movement around Brisbane .. and it's mums and dads and small business operators
who'll pay.
