Angry Hangberg protesters trade fire with Metro Police.(News)

AN unknown number of people were injured by rubber bullets and a Metro Police officer was shot in the hand by protesters after a group of residents in Hangberg, Hout Bay,clashed with law enforcement officers yesterday.

The residents were protesting against the demolition of illegal structures without notice.

It is believed that a number of residents returned fire with live ammunition.

City law enforcement officials arrived early yesterday morning and tore down a wall a Hangberg mother had erected and knocked down a half-built shack of a nearby family.

Incensed neighbours began pelting the officers with stones. …
